I do not look for better, I look elsewhere.
Avanvue was born from a simple conviction. Artists who matter reveal themselves before they become obvious, provided one looks with discernment and takes the time to see. That moment, when an artwork is already there but not yet recognized, is the only one that interests me. I don't claim the finest eye, only my own, and I can say why I linger on one artwork rather than another.
I have always been immersed in art. From a very young age, I watched my father collect art by artists who were unknown at the time, such as Chaïbia. I still have some of those paintings today.
I studied art in France. I drew for years. I, too, was a collector. I've lived, among other places, in Kenya, Egypt, and the United States, where art isn't mere decoration, but a way of inhabiting the world. My perspective was shaped far from the confines of the Parisian art market. That is what makes it different, not superior.
I have seen remarkable artists pass by unnoticed. Not because their work lacked value, but because the art market has its own codes and circuits.
It opens certain doors and leaves others shut.
I show little. For each artist I present, I record the date and state why. To claim an eye for what's early is to accept being judged over time. And I do not merely show. I connect. I bring the creator into the presence of the viewer. With me, a collector meets a person and a work, never a catalogue.
I have never exhibited my own works. But I realized that was not where I was most useful.
