Overview
HQ works with accumulation. His canvases are saturated surfaces, with intertwining lines of India ink, overlapping forms, and clashing colors that do not neutralize one another. It is urban art that has moved from the wall to the canvas, yet retains the urgency of the gesture.
The titles are often states: Sad Man, A quoi bon ?, End of troubles, Stoïcisme. A practice that questions what it means to hold one's ground in the world. The work is dense, sometimes dark, always inhabited. It asserts itself in a space without asking permission.
My view
I chose him in May 2026.
Shapes do not look. They face forward. A mask, opaque, closed in on itself. Something archaic and universal, like ritual objects. The line does not represent. It occupies. The shape is frozen. The gesture is not. HQ was the first artist I chose. A friend introduced us, and I went to see him in his studio in Arles.
