Overview

Born in Vietnam, Phuong Truong lives and works in Paris. She holds a master's degree in fine arts research from the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.

She paints still lifes and landscapes in oil, often in small formats, with precise work on light and matter. In 2025, she presented two solo exhibitions, Paysage dans l'œil in Savenay and Ce que la lumière ne dit pas in Bois-Colombes. Her new canvases, painted in 2026, stem from a sensation of summer, a calm light, a somewhat suspended time.

My view

I chose her in June 2026.

What touches me in Phuong Truong's work is her way of giving importance to what we no longer look at. A familiar object, a glimpsed landscape, or a light become full-fledged presences under her brush. Her painting is precise without being cold, soft without being decorative. It invites us to slow down and rediscover the discreet poetry of the everyday. I saw her for the first time in a pop-up, in a cafe. We understood each other immediately.

The Letter

Every two weeks, I write a letter about the art I truly look at. Not the art we are necessarily told to love. Simply a slower, more personal, and freer way of looking at contemporary art. Three regular features. The Selection: I present an artist. Everyday Uncommon: my eye, the exhibitions I see, and what I find in them. Behind the Scenes: I talk about Avanvue, its projects, its choices, its philosophy.
